Yesterday I had the supreme privilege of participating in the opening of Hertzliya’s Artist Association’s exhibition “New Friends“.
A while back I wrote about my feelings on being accepted to the association.
The exhibition experience was a validation of my feelings and was a case in favor of my motto: “I do Art because it makes me happy, everything else is a bonus…”
As far as events go it was a wonderful success. We had everything such an event requires:
Beautiful women
Speeches
Supportive family members
Funky artists
and Art lovers
To cut a long story short: It was a blast and I had a lot of fun…
especially after I downed a glass or two of the good stuff Henrik Rotem was passing out in small plastic cups : )
You can see all the pictures from the event below.
If you want to download any of the pictures for friends and family click and download it from Flickr at the largest size.
Yesterday I had the great privilege to participate in a benefit organized by the “Vered’s Friends” group to raise money in order to fund the treatments Vered requires to help her combat the Cancer she is afflicted with.
Vered’s body might be sick but her spirit is strong and her mind is clear. It was touching and inspiring to hear her talk frankly and openly about the trials and tribulations she and her family are going through in the ongoing fight to help her vanquish Cancer and return her safe and healthy to her 3 year old son Nadav.
The photos below are from the benefit event.
It’s important to note that all the participants - models, designers, hairdressers, make up artists, caterers, DJs, photographers (and everyone else I haven’t mentioned) all volunteered to make this event happen - it was magic. I’m glad two of my prints were purchased at the auction. It’s the most meaningful sale I’ve made to date as all proceeds were donated to Vered’s cause : )

I’ve had the good fortune to get my art featured in the July 2009 edition of DP - Arte Fotográfica - a Portuguese magazine dedicated to Digital Creativity.
My heart felt thanks to Jorge Guedes, DP’s editor, who found my crap worthy
I’m particularly pleased about the exposure this secures for my print “Ahmadinejad’s Daughter” which reflects my deepest fears at the thought that this maniacal tyrant is inches from getting his hands on an atomic bomb.
It amazes me that despite the recent horrific events in Iran, which exposed just how ruthless and brutal this regime really is, the nations of world remain largely indifferent at the thought of a nuclear Tehran.
Is the sacrifice of those poor Iranians who dared protest the massive fraud in the last “elections” truly meaningless? Have we learned nothing since 1939?
I’ve recently added another pearl to my ever growing string of profiles and enlisted to the “London Calling 2009” artist competition by joining the online art community myartspace.com. This is my submission for the competition as displayed by the excellent presentation widget MyArtSpace features (click the play icon):
Well that’s all for now. Have a great weekend : )

Shahid Brown and I spent a very intense Friday evening together.
Shahid is the amazing gallery director for the Grind Gallery and an artist in his own right, but more importantly - he is a good person.
These are pictures I took while we were around the Grind gallery and later while Shahid and I walked his amazing dogs. Shahid has an incredible bond with his canine friends and they obey him without any question or hesitation.
These pictures are my way of showing gratitude to Shahid for the invitation he gave me to visit his home and for his hospitality.
The portraits of Shahid are also my tribute to Shahid’s involvement with LA’s Cannibal Flower show, of which Shahid is one of the principal organizers and which is celebrating it’s 8th anniversary this month after running since 2000 once a month, without fail. The Cannibal Flower show gives emerging and up-and-coming artists from around the world the chance to display their work at one of the coolest venues on the planet.
If you want to download a photo you can click on the slide-show and that will lead you to the Picasa album where they are all stored. You can use the photos in any way you desire, I only ask that you give me credit and provide a link to my website or blog - MikeDarnell.name.
