For Our Sins

This image is based on a photograph taken by Olivier Fitoussi who is my friend and a professional photographer.

I was visiting Olivier at his home browsing photos when Olivier introduced me to an image of Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem's old city during Easter. At the time I was busily working on preparing the last of the images scheduled to appear in my exhibition "Babes, Bibles, Bikinis and Burkas".

I had never planned on creating this piece for the exhibition but something about the circumstances at the time that Olivier showed me his photo just brought everything together.

I had, at the time, been contemplating for quite a while creating a blatantly "Christian" piece.  Although I am a secular Jew, the idea of using a cross in my art still required some adjusting to.  It was probably the suggestion given to me by my friend Heidi that set the stage for the creation of this print.
