Judaism, Israel and Jerusalem... Jewish Israeli art

This Gallery is dedicated to pieces that were inspired by my roots as a Jew, Israeli and Jerusalemite.
Some of the images were created from photos taken in Jerusalem and its near vicinity.

My Jewish heritage has always been important to me but I feel the urge to connect grow stronger as I gain age and (hopefuly) wisdom.

Adam and Eve

Adam and Eve

In my artwork I seldom refer to my Jewish heritage by choosing biblical scenes as my subject matter. This image of Adam and Eve is a prime example. The composition for this image is based on a painting of Adam and Eve by Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553 AD). I merely updated the symbolism and the color...

Bat-Sheva

Bat-Sheva

The story of King David and Bat Sheva has always been a favorite of mine. Often I've wondered how aware Batsheva was of her kingly voyeur.

This print, which to me is uncharacteristic of most of my work, seems to be well liked and I am often questioned about it.

Jerusalem Stroll

Jerusalem Stroll

It was a bright autumn Friday afternoon, the 11th of November 2006, to be precise, and I took a stroll from my home to the center of Jerusalem.

I believe that, in this print, the colors and patterns on the one hand, and the dark and red stains on the other, really reflect Tel Aviv's aspirations and realities.

The Crane-ival is Coming to Town

The Crane-ival is Coming to Town

The YMCA's football field was home to Jerusalem's legendary club - Beytar Jerusalem. It was immortalized by poets and writers. The surge in the value of property and the disintegration of the social fiber of the city doomed the it to become nothing more than a real estate opportunity waiting to be snatched up by savvy entrepreneurs and their legions of cranes. "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi..."

Urban Orchid

Urban Orchid

We were heading out of Jerusalem on one of those last magical Friday afternoons of the summer. It must have been about four o'clock when she took this shot of the last urban skyline Jerusalem offers those departing it's limits.

Uzziah built towers

Uzziah built towers

"Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem...and fortified them..." Chronicles II, chapter 26. This print also deals with the irresponsible development of Jerusalem urban cityscape. How shameful that we, the descendants of Jerusalem's first builders, allow ourselves to build here with no motivation beyond our own personal gain, and no regard beyond the narrow minded regard of our own interests.
