Ask Ye the Peace of Jerusalem"...Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces..." Psalm 122 (as translated in the King James Bible). Sadly when I ask myself the Peace of Jerusalem I'm not sure I like the answer I find. Jerusalem these days loses sixteen thousand citizens every year. Most Jerusalemites my age have long left the city to seek better jobs and a richer cultural environment near the Tel-Aviv metropolis. The city's nicer neighborhoods are being bought wholesale by rich American and French Jews seeking a holiday home, which may also turn out to be a good investment. The massive buy out of homes by investors who are part time residents at best, is rapidly transforming formerly vibrant neighborhoods into ghostlike similes of themselves. Money may becoming in thanks to the foreign investors but we are losing the city's soul... Limited Edition |
