The Crane-ival is Coming to Town

This image has a special place in my heart as it is the first image ever purchased from me, and as such helped to embolden me to a point where I could start saying that I am an artist of sorts. The buyer was my good friend Hank Shrier to whom I am eternally grateful.

The print displays a horde of cranes advancing on one of Jerusalem's landmarks - the YMCA building. I chose this building to represent Jerusalem because of its history: It was built in the 1920's during the British mandate in Israel (then Palestine).

The building's architect, Arthur Harmon, drew on elements from Christian, Muslim and Jewish culture, in honor of the founders' will that the YMCA become a place of gathering and meeting respected and frequented by members of all faiths.

The YMCA's football field was for years home to Jerusalem's legendary football club - Beytar, and was immortalized in song by many Jerusalemite poets and authors.

The surge in the value of property and the disintegration of the social fiber of the city doomed the old YMCA football field to become yet another real estate opportunity waiting to be seized by savvy entrepreneurs and their legions of cranes.
