Chronicles II, chapter 26 This print is another one of my art works that deals with the irresponsible development of Jerusalem's urban cityscape. It is similar in concept to "The Crane-ival is coming to town". The print originated in a popular Israeli song recorded by the band "Hadudaim" in 1959, that was buzzing around in my head for weeks every time I saw a crane in the city. The song has as its chorus the line from the book of Chronicles quoted above - "Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem...". It made me wonder about the builders of Jerusalem in centuries past. How reverent they were in their development. Muslims, Christians, even Romans, all built here with a sense that the act of construction on this consecrated ground is a holy one. How shameful that we, the descendants of those first Jewish builders of Jerusalem, allow ourselves to build here with no motivation beyond our own personal gain, and no regard beyond the narrow minded regard of our own interests. No thought is given to the fact that the architectural monstrosities forced on the city today will be here for decades to come, spreading their ugliness like a cancer throughout the city.
